Wildplay in Whinlatter & ride to Keswick (C2C Day 2)
Day 2 of our Coast to Coast ride took us from Cockermouth to Keswick, via the Whinlatter Pass. Leaving the coastal plain behind, we headed up Lorton Vale, then up and over the Whinlatter Pass heading for the North Lakes market town of Keswick. Here’s our photo journal from Day 2 of the tour.
Cockermouth is quiet this Monday morning

Monday morning in Cockermouth and all was quiet, at least until we rolled back into town

The kids quickly found something of interest…
The butcher’s is open and doing its business

The town was looking pretty shiny after the big flood clean up and refurbishment

And business looked as if it may be back to normal

Well, if you call that normal
We ride up Lorton Vale in the mist

Back on the road, we headed up Lorton Vale towards the mist and mountains
And on up the Whinlatter Pass

We struggled a bit up the Whinlatter Pass
Spring is in the air

But there were signs of Spring to distract
And encouragement all around

And words of strategically placed encouragement
We stop for wild play in Whinlatter

Up at the top of the pass there was time to explore the Whinlatter Forest

The kids still had energy to explore the Wild Play Area

And the spirit to help each other out
And then head down and into Keswick

Summitting Whinlatter was good preparation
for tackling the Pennines later in the week

And everyone enjoyed the descent down
to reach the North Lakes Town of Keswick
beyond which lay our accommodation for the night,
at the family run Lyzzick Hall Hotel

We did this C2C ride across England, from Workington to Sunderland, as part of our Family Adventure Capital Season. We’re exploring different ways families can adventure together in and around Cumbria, sharing ideas and inspiration to encourage families to get out, get active and adventure together.
